Los talleres de co-creación se enfocaron en incentivar nuevas maneras de sensibilización con respecto a la auto-representación de las mujeres víctimas del conflicto colombiano. Se exploraron las tensiones ocasionadas en torno a género y visibilidad en espacios de museos, sitios web y obras de arte, y se plantearon preguntas sobre cómo abordar la representación de las voces de las mujeres que aún no se han escuchado o representado, en estos espacios oficiales. Esto incluyó investigar las complejidades de las prácticas de representación, análisis y comunicación de narrativas de violencia de género en museos, monumentos y plataformas digitales en los que previamente se habían invisibilizado estas narrativas y estas víctimas. Además, se cuestionó como las mujeres se veían representadas a través de sus relatos y si se podría encontrar nuevas maneras de comunicación y expresión para añadirlas al lenguaje oficial y así empezar a negociar y participar en la memoria histórica del conflicto armando en Colombia. El objetivo se centró en recopilar materiales para culminar en una obra de arte digital interactiva online titulada Voces Invisibles: Mujeres Víctimas del Conflicto Colombiano y facilitarles a las mujeres su participación con la aplicación Mujeres Voces Invisibles del Conflicto MVIC para recopilar relatos. Ambas son accesibles a través del menu en este sitio web de investigación y documentación del proyecto.

El arte digital interactivo Voces Invisibles: Mujeres Víctimas del Conflicto Colombiano consiste de tres partes: Su espacio en la memoria, la memoria personal/colectiva, representada en la escritura en el muro; ¿Nos escuchan? la activista política con fotografías de actos que organizan las mujeres de Zoscua y La Ruta Pacífica; y la tercera Relatos-Voces Construyendo Memoria, con narraciones varias con temas sobre género: ‘Museo para mí’; cuerpo político: “Nuestro cuerpo se quedó en hilachitas”; memoria: “Le Refresco la Memoria”, ‘Costurero de la Memoria’ (mapa de retazos Colombia). 

As co-investigator of the AHRC funded project  Memory, Victims, and Representation of the Colombian Conflict my role was leading the creative team working on the artistic research project titled  Invisible Voices: Women Victims of the Colombian Conflict and give voice to the women in their participation in the construction of memory. For this purpose, I led a series of co-creation workshops in Bogota, Colombia, with the participation of the research team and the women community groups of la Ruta Pacífica and Zoscua.

In the co-creation workshops we explored a variety of creative storytelling and artistic approaches to share personal stories, and discuss issues surrounding gender and (in)visibility in museum spaces, websites, and artworks, and with this, raise questions concerning how to address women’s voices that have not yet been heard or represented in these official spaces. In addition, it was questioned how women saw themselves represented through their stories, and if there might be, new ways of communication and expression that could be added to the ‘official language’ and thus, begin to negotiate and participate in the construction of the historical memory of the Colombia conflict. The aim was focused on collecting materials to culminate in an interactive online digital art.

We also introduced women to use the app Mujeres Voces Invisibles del Conflicto MVIC to share their stories in writing, orally or through video, during and after the workshops. Both the app and the artwork are accessible through the menu in this documentary website.

The digital interactive art Invisible Voices: Women Victims of the Colombian Conflict consists of three layers: Their Place Within Memory, the personal and collective memory written on the wall; Are you listening? the political activist represented with photographs of events organised by the women from Zoscua and La Ruta Pacífica; and the third one Storytelling- Voices Constructing Memory, as a storytelling space comprising issues of gender representation: “Museum for Me” with the process of building their own museums; body politics: “Our bodies were left in shreds” with the stamp of messages in jute cloth; memory: “Let me refresh your memory”, “Threading Memories” (Colombia’s quilt map)

Metodologías: Con el propósito de recopilar material para la obra interactiva online, exploramos una variedad de enfoques creativos de narración, expresiones artísticas, diseño, documentación y colaboración en grupo para facilitar que las mujeres expresaran si se sentían reflejadas en el discurso nacional y oficial sobre la reconstrucción de la memoria del conflicto armado y buscar medios para que se expresaran y dieran sentido a la violencia.

Utilizando este proceso derivado del usuario, nos permitió  compartir relatos personales, su participación en activismo político y cultura; discutimos temas de poder, territorio, desplazamiento, género, política corporal y violencia; los cuales se convirtieron en parte de la obra de arte interactiva; para que de esta manera se les visibilice sus voces y participación ‘activa’ en la construcción de la memoria del conflicto colombiano.

Methodologies: With the purpose of collecting material for the interactive online work, we explored a variety of creative approaches from storytelling, artistic expressions, design, discussions to documentation and group collaboration in order to find ways for the women to express themselves (with their different abilities) and make sense of the violence suffered as a result of the armed conflict, as well as discuss whether they felt reflected in the reconstruction of the memory presented by the national and official discourses. 

With this user generated process, we shared personal stories, their participation in political activism and culture, discussed issues of power, territory, displacement, gender, body politics and violence; ALL, issues, which later became part of the interactive artwork; as a form to make their voices heard and actively participate in the construction of memory in the Colombian conflict.
